Located in Muhlenberg County, Central City is a thriving city situated in the western portion of Kentucky. The area in which Central City is located was original known as Morehead’s Horse Mill. In 1882, Central City was reincorporated and renamed in honor of the Central Coal and Iron Company which, at that time, had just begun operating in the city. As of 2010, Central City has a population of approximately 5,978 people. Central City is the largest city in the Central City Micropolitan Statistical Area.
Individuals visiting Central City will find there are many things to see and do around the city. On Labor Day Weekend, Central City hosts a weekend-long car show. Visitors attending the event have the opportunity experience some of Central City’s culture while seeing beautiful classic cars. Central City is also home to the Kentucky Women’s Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is located inside the Central City Public Library and features exhibits that display the wonderful history of some of Kentucky’s finest women. Music enthusiasts will want to visit the Muhlenberg County Music Museum. The museum features artifacts and memorabilia of artists such as the Everly Brothers, Warren Oats, and many others.
